Burger King to open first branch in Welsh county within days

The newest Burger King opening in south Wales will be the first location in Rhondda Cynon Taf and will be close to the site of a former Indian restaurant

A new Burger King restaurant will be opening on a busy industrial estate that was previously home to a popular Indian restaurant. The huge fast-food chain will be adding to its locations across Wales with a new restaurant on Treforest Industrial Estate, Rhondda Cynon Taf.

It is due to open on Thursday, May 22, and will be located next to the Esso petrol station in Tonteg Road. The new location will be the chain’s only restaurant in the Rhondda Cynon Taf borough.

The Burger King will be open next to the site which was previously The Cinnamon Tree, a popular family-run Indian restaurant which announced that it would be closing in June 2024. Customers said they were “gutted” by the news. Get the latest Rhondda news first by signing up to our newsletter here.

Within hours of the announcement one person said: “This is very said news to hear. Thanks for all the delicious food and good times over the years.” However The Cinnamon Tree has since reopened as a restaurant and takeaway in the Central Hotel building in Trallwn, Pontypridd.

A spokesman for Burger King confirmed the opening date.
