There’s a new Nando’s opening in Fforestfach this week (the third in Swansea, if you’re keeping count), but that’s far from the biggest story.

This week, Swansea is packed with events, live music, comedy and family activities.

Let’s start with the headline event. The Wales Airshow returns to Swansea Bay this weekend, and if you’ve never been before, it’s well worth making time for. Expect spectacular flying displays over the bay, a buzzing seafront and thousands of people enjoying one of Swansea’s biggest annual events. It’s the kind of weekend that brings the whole city together.

If comedy is more your thing, Jason Manford brings his latest tour, A Manford All Seasons, to Swansea. With one of the UK’s best-known comedians on stage, it’s likely to be a popular night.

Music fans are spoilt for choice too.

On Wednesday, the Hamish Stuart Band takes to the stage at the Swansea Grand Theatre. Best known as the former frontman of Average White Band, Stuart continues to deliver classic soul and funk.

Friday night sees DJ Craig Charles at The Swigg, serving up his trademark mix of funk, soul and dance classics, while Saturday belongs to local favourites Struggler, who celebrate the release of We All Must Fade To Black with a special show at The Bunkhouse.

There are plenty of smaller events worth discovering too. Ping Pong & Pint returns to Urban HQ every Wednesday, complete with a complimentary drink, while Lemontronic brings its electronic open mic night to Down By Here on Saturday.

Families are equally well catered for.

Penlan Leisure Centre hosts a Saturday afternoon pool party featuring an inflatable assault course, with tickets from £6.66. Broadacre in Killay is running a Bikeability morning, while a family-friendly scavenger hunt around Swansea South takes participants on a 1.3-mile route featuring seven stops, including Mosaic Marina and Trafalgar Bridge.

For something completely different, the Constellation Big Band performs inside the spectacular Great Glass House at the National Botanic Garden of Wales on Saturday evening. Expect an evening of classic swing in one of Wales’ most unique venues, with tickets from £13.70.

Looking ahead, National Brick Events arrives at Swansea City Football Club on 2 August, promising impressive LEGO® displays, rare retired sets and plenty for builders of all ages.
