The summer holidays aren’t over yet, and Swansea still has plenty up its sleeve for the second half of August.
Over the next two weeks you’ll find big-name comedy at Swansea Arena, live music, free family activities, markets, creative workshops and plenty of reasons to get out and make the most of the last stretch of summer.
Whether you’re entertaining the kids, planning a night out or looking for something that won’t cost a fortune, here’s our pick of what’s happening across Swansea from **17–30 August 2026**.
Headline Event: Paul Smith – Happy
27–28 August | Swansea Building Society Arena
One of the biggest comedy dates in Swansea this month arrives at the Arena as Paul Smith brings his new *Happy* tour to the city for two nights.
Known for his rapid-fire crowd work and observational comedy, Smith has built an enormous following both online and on stage. The Swansea shows are part of his biggest tour to date, taking him across the UK and internationally.
The show is for ages 16+.

2. The Music of Fleetwood Mac by Candlelight
**29 August | Swansea Building Society Arena**
Fleetwood Mac’s best-loved songs get the candlelight treatment with a live band and singers performing tracks including *The Chain*, *Rhiannon* and *Don’t Stop*.
Tickets start from £22.50 plus booking fees, and under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.
3. WONDERFEST!
**26 August | National Waterfront Museum | 12pm–3pm | FREE**
A free event for all ages at the National Waterfront Museum and a particularly good option for families looking for something to do during the school holidays.
4. K’Nex Big Build Challenge
**20 & 27 August | National Waterfront Museum | 11.30am–2.30pm | FREE**
Got a young builder in the family?
Children aged six and over can get creative with K’Nex at these free drop-in sessions at the Waterfront Museum.
5. Kids – Block Printing with Natural Colour
**21–22 August | National Waterfront Museum | 11am–1pm | FREE**
Another useful school-holiday find: free family workshops exploring block printing and natural colour.
6. Hear a Story, Make a Map
**17–18 August | National Waterfront Museum | 12pm & 2pm | FREE**
A creative family activity combining storytelling and map-making. The sessions are free but bookable, so check availability before travelling.
7. Talisman Poetry & Spoken Word Open Mic
**27 August | Down By Here | From 7.30pm**
Swansea’s long-running poetry and spoken-word open mic returns. Anyone can sign up, with readings beginning at 8pm.
8. Yscolan: Welsh Folk Tune School
**29 August | Down By Here | 12pm–2pm**
Bring your instrument and learn Swansea’s songs in a relaxed session led by Ceri Rhys Matthews. All abilities are welcome.
9. The Silly Cabaret: It’s Giving Silly Summer Ball
**29 August | Elysium Gallery & Bar**
Cabaret meets a summer ball, followed by DJs for a rather different Saturday night in Swansea.
10. CATCH Market: 90s & Y2K Vintage Fashion Market
**30 August | Swansea Leisure Centre**
If your wardrobe could use a bit of late-’90s or Y2K nostalgia, this vintage fashion market rounds off the month with rails of retro finds to browse.

# Free Things to Do
August doesn’t have to mean spending a fortune keeping everyone entertained.
The **National Waterfront Museum** is particularly strong over these two weeks, with WONDERFEST!, K’Nex building sessions, block printing and other family activities available free of charge.
You could also make a day of:
- Walking Swansea Bay promenade
- Exploring Clyne Gardens
- Visiting Swansea Market
- Walking around the Marina
- Heading out to Rhossili for the views
- Exploring Mumbles and the seafront
- Spending a few hours at one of Gower’s beaches
# Family Picks
For families, our top picks are **WONDERFEST!**, the **K’Nex Big Build Challenge**, **Hear a Story, Make a Map** and the **Block Printing with Natural Colour** workshops.
There’s also the **Treasure Coin Challenge** running at the National Waterfront Museum throughout August, giving you another free option to add to a museum visit.

# Live Music & Entertainment
The biggest music event in this guide is **The Music of Fleetwood Mac by Candlelight** at Swansea Building Society Arena on 29 August.
For something much smaller and distinctly local, the Welsh Folk Tune School at Down By Here offers the chance to get involved rather than simply watch.
And if comedy is more your thing, Paul Smith’s two Swansea Arena dates on 27 and 28 August are likely to be among the month’s most popular nights out.
# Food & Drink
If you’re heading into Swansea for one of the events, it’s worth making an afternoon or evening of it.
Swansea Market is an easy option for lunch and local produce, while Wind Street and the city centre offer plenty of choices for dinner before an Arena show.
Mumbles is another good choice if you want to combine food with a walk along the seafront, while a trip further into Gower gives you plenty of opportunities to combine a beach day with a pub lunch or café stop.
