Work progresses on the Skyline Kilvey Hill development
Construction of the £49 million Skyline Swansea attraction is moving into its next phase.
Piling for the gondola base station at Landore Park and Ride is expected to continue for approximately five weeks. Tree clearance and piling for the gondola towers will take place along the route, while eight weeks of groundworks have begun for the planned summit restaurant and café.
The park-and-ride facility remains open with reduced capacity. Skyline says no additional walking trails are expected to close during this phase, although visitors may see more fencing, contractors and construction traffic. Read the full Skyline update.
Police appeal after girls filmed on Swansea train
British Transport Police are appealing for information after two 15-year-old girls were reportedly filmed by a man travelling on a train between Swansea and Gowerton.
The incident is reported to have happened at approximately 7.10pm on Tuesday, 11 August. Police have released an image of a man they would like to speak to and are asking anyone with information to come forward. See the police appeal.
Fourth person charged following teenager’s death
A fourth person has been charged in connection with the death of 18-year-old Ceiran Evans.
Ceiran died following a collision involving a car and an off-road motorcycle on Pen Cae Crwn Road in Gorseinon on 9 July.
A 36-year-old woman from Gorseinon has been charged with assisting an offender and remanded in custody. Three men had previously been charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with the incident. Court proceedings are continuing. Read the report from Herald.Wales.
Health club devastated by overnight fire
A major fire has caused extensive damage to Langrove Health Club in Parkmill, Gower.
Ten fire crews attended after the blaze reportedly began in the sauna area. People were evacuated from nearby homes while firefighters worked through the night to bring the incident under control.
The owners described themselves as devastated by the loss of the business. The cause of the fire is being investigated. Read the WalesOnline report.
Man accepts voluntary deportation following drugs conviction
A 23-year-old man has accepted voluntary deportation after being sentenced for his involvement in a cannabis-growing operation.
Police stopped a van he was driving and reportedly discovered equipment connected with cannabis cultivation. Further enquiries led officers to a property containing a large number of plants.
The case was heard at Swansea Crown Court, although the offence took place outside Swansea. Read the original court report.
Five teenagers charged following Rheola House fire
Five teenagers have been charged following the fire that severely damaged historic Rheola House in the Neath Valley.
The Grade II* listed Regency manor, believed to have been designed by John Nash, was gutted by the blaze on Tuesday, 18 August.
Four defendants aged 18 or 19 and a 17-year-old boy appeared before Swansea Magistrates’ Court charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered. The case remains before the courts. Read more about the Rheola House case.
Family pays tribute to motorcyclist Lynne Trump
The family of Lynne Trump, 45, from Crynant, have paid a moving tribute following her death in a collision on the A4109.
Mrs Trump died at the scene near Cefn Coed Colliery on Sunday, 16 August. Her family described the wife, mother and grandmother as caring, generous and “one of life’s rare diamonds”.

Portable toilets installed near Swansea seafront
Five portable toilets have been installed in the upper Civic Centre car park, providing the first public facilities in this part of Swansea’s seafront since the Civic Centre closed in December.
The temporary toilets are expected to remain available until the end of October. Permanent public facilities form part of the wider redevelopment proposals for the Civic Centre site. Read the full update.
Visiting youngster shines at Swansea City football camp
A young footballer visiting Swansea from Berlin made new friends and earned special recognition after attending a Kellogg’s Football Camp.
Msoso secured a free place at the camp, delivered by Swansea City AFC Foundation, after his grandparents found a promotional Kellogg’s code.
The sessions gave him an opportunity to develop his football skills, connect with other young people and enjoy a supportive team environment. His enthusiasm and encouragement of younger participants also earned him the title of Player of the Day.

Free grassroots music festival returns this weekend
Amplitude returns to Swansea Amphitheatre on Saturday, 22 and Sunday, 23 August, offering two days of free live music.
The programme includes funk, blues, rock, post-punk, indie, soul and pop, with Welsh soul-pop performer M0LI headlining Saturday. The Pepperseeds will close Sunday’s programme.
